Full-Time Competitive Dance Program
The Full-Time Competitive Program at Canadian Dance Company is designed to give dancers who are passionate about the art of dance the opportunity to compete with a team at a higher level than our Part-Time Program. These dancers receive robust training and performing opportunities and compete in a Full-Time category at competitions. Full-Time families benefit from the high-calibre curriculum and faculty, along with a program that supports a manageable lifestyle balance.
Our season is built around dancers succeeding in two major areas, progressing from September to June:
- Building dancers’ confidence in class structure and artistry, mastering foundational skills (focus/work ethic, strength, technique, and flexibility), and expanding the repertoire required in each of their class disciplines.
- Sharpening their expertise in picking up choreography quickly and improving the skill of repetition and refinement (practice!) to feel confident at conventions and to perform and compete on stage.
Dancers will excel in this program if equal importance is placed on consistent attendance, competitive technique/training, and choreography classes. These areas will be evaluated through scheduled ballet assessments/exams, competitions, and convention events.
There will be opportunities to view your dancer’s progress — one in the classroom during the first part of the season, and then each time they hit the stage after that.
We have three Full-Time Teams, with dancers placed according to age and ability: Junior, Intermediate, and Advanced. Dancers will train with our competitive faculty in six required styles — jazz, ballet (including pointe for eligible dancers on the Intermediate and Advanced teams), tap, hip hop, contemporary — and one required discipline: acro (8–10.5 hours per week). Your team routines will perform at Showcase, compete at three regional competitions, and appear in the Year-End Shows.
Note: Acro is a training discipline and will not have a performance routine. However, dancers will be expected to develop a repertoire of acrobatic/tumbling skills, which may be incorporated into the choreography of other routines.
