Part-Time Competitive Program
The Part-Time Competitive Program at Canadian Dance Company is designed to give dancers who are passionate about the art of dance the opportunity to compete with a team. This program offers a fantastic experience for dancers ready to take the fun up a notch, as they compete in the “Part-Time” category at competitions. Part-Time families benefit from a high-calibre curriculum and faculty, along with a program that supports a manageable lifestyle balance.
Our season is built around dancers succeeding in two major areas, progressing from September to June:
- Building dancers’ confidence in class structure and establishing foundational skills — focus/work ethic, strength, technique, flexibility, and artistry — required in each of their class disciplines.
- Learning choreography and developing the skill of repetition and refinement (practice!) to prepare for performing and competing on stage.
Part-Time dancers will thrive in this program and be well-prepared for future competitive dance years if consistent attendance is prioritized. Both core areas will be put to the test at our scheduled competition and CDC Intensive events.
Families will have opportunities to view their dancer’s progress — once in the classroom during the first part of the season, and again each time they hit the stage afterward.
We offer four Part-Time Teams, with dancers placed according to their age and ability: Pre-Mini, Pre-Junior, Pre-Intermediate, and Pre-Advanced. Dancers train with our competitive faculty in four or five required styles — jazz, ballet, tap, and hip hop (with contemporary added for Pre-Intermediate and Pre-Advanced dancers), for a total of 6 hours per week.
- Your jazz, tap, and hip hop routines (and contemporary for Pre-Intermediate and Pre-Advanced) will perform at Showcase and compete at three regional competitions.
- Ballet (and jazz, for Pre-Intermediate and Pre-Advanced) is taught as a technique-focused discipline and does not compete.
- All routines — jazz, tap, ballet, hip hop, and contemporary — will perform in the Year-End Shows.
Note: Acro is an optional training discipline and will not have a routine to perform.
